How old do you think?

Can anyone tell me how old these girls may be? The first pic was taken the day I got them, April 18th. The second one was yesterday, June 7th.

One more question. If they are 4-5 mos should I be feeding them layer feed? I have read they start to lay anywhere between 4-6 mos. or so I wait until they are laying? They are still eating chick feed and whatever they eat while out free ranging every afternoon.

I have seen a lot of reference of fermented feed. What is the purpose/benefit of it?
