A fertilized egg does NOT equal a baby chick UNLESS you allow your hens to go broody and incubate them. A fertilized egg has the POTENTIAL to become a chick, but only if incubated by the hens or in an incubator. Does this help you? Or am I misinterpreting your statement?

We had some make it into their teens and still active and fertile.

Wow, Thanks for the info. I heard it somewhere that after 5 years, fertility drops down low. It is comforting to know that they can be fertile in there teens Human years.
