It can really vary, I've had them start trying early like at four weeks, and some will take until eight months or more ... the smaller the rooster's adult size the earlier they seem to start in general.

lol. I don't have a rooster yet, (I am not allowed to, because there is a subdivision next to me!) but one of my hens is broody, and l was thinking about borrowing some fertililized eggs from my neighbor, as she offered to do so so l could have chicks. I was curious to know what time they would start crowing, so I would know when to give them away. Still looking for someone to give them to if I have any boys when they hatch, but I have not found anybody yet.

Hope my plan works out!

The 'usual' age is between 16-20 weeks, but as other have said above they have had roosters as young as 3 weeks.

What breed is your rooster?

Well what ever breed you most likely should be able to tell the sex before they start crowing

My Welsummer is 18 weeks and still not crowing. I am really looking forward to it. I had to re home my other rooster because it got too aggressive, and I really miss the sound of the rooster crowing in the morning.
