I'm not sure where to put this thread so I'll just post it in my favorite section.

Here is my new rooster. No name yet. He is a splash Ameraucana (or at least I and a few other users think so).

I got him from a guy looking to rehome last week. The guy told me that he started crowing about 2-3 weeks ago from today. He has pointy saddle feathers and curling sickles but no hackle feathers that are as pointy or shiny as the saddles (yet?). His crow is a little crackly shaky but very loud and full. He is so SO big compared to my hens and my little bantam roosters.

When we first bought him home like 4 days ago, most of my hens would chase him around while the 2 silkie roos would lose in every fight against him. Up until today he always let the hens chase him and didn't defend himself. He stayed far away from the other chickens. Today he is a lot better and almost completely familiar to the flock. He hasn't started mating with any hen except try to with a tiny silkie hen.

What are your guesses on this boy's age? I think maybe 18 weeks?

I put him in an introducing cage for a day but he was desperately trying to get out so I decided to try letting him out. There weren't any major fights so I decided to just let him in without putting him back in the cage.
Quarantining for a minimum of 30 days ensures new birds don't bring in any illnesses or parasites (mites). It's easier to treat one bird than a whole flock.

Honestly, I didn't do that and should have. I sprayed him with Poultry Protector but that's all I did and it was a risky move. Do you have a guess on how old he is?
