How old is too old to tame?

I know nothing about turkeys but I am so excited because I am purchasing one this weekend to go with my chickens. The poult is about 3-4 weeks old. I don't know how much it has been handled. Are they hard to tame down? Is it too old for imprinting? Any advice would be appreciated!

Most of the chickens I have ever had I have either hatched or bought at a couple of days old so they have been very young. I have read a bit about turkeys being very affectionate. I just didn't know if it would be a struggle to get one friendly if it's already close to 4 weeks old. There will be much bribing with the food!

I've gotten most of mine when they were young too, but I do have to handle them more at that age and some of them don't like that. So some of mine have been a little scared of me when young, but now that they're grown, they jump on my lap for treats.

My strategy is not to handle them if they don't like it, unless I really need to for health reasons. But I do go out there frequently with treats and encourage them to get closer and closer. I imagine that strategy would also work for turkeys.

Still, I don't know exactly how tame you want yours. Personally, if I can get my birds to follow me where I want them to go, and be happy to see me, then I'm satisfied. I don't need mine to be lap birds, although it's entertaining if they are.

i got my turkeys at a couple days- i think youll b fine

That's what my concern is. This poult is 3-4 weeks old, not a couple of days. I guess I need to get it first to see how wild it may be. Thanks for the responses!
