How old is too old?

I have an Australorp and 2 wyandotte hens. They have been pets and are about 3 years old. I have been considering getting a rooster. I know of 2 free young California Greys that are available. (I would choose one) Will my hens accept him? are my hens too old to bother? At this time we are getting between 1-3 eggs daily. I am very interested in fertilized eggs/hatching and raising for meat. I have a large family downstairs. I also think it would be fun for myself and the kids to have chicks hatch from eggs. What do you think?
I realize the brooding or nesting would not happen until next spring...or-I am ignorant and do not know what I am doing(most likley).

if you are still getting eggs its not to late, they may or may not accept him. you just have to find one they like, older cockerels are better so they dont get hurt when being introduced
