How old is your oldest chicken?

My oldest are five. Still laying, though not daily any more. Here's Fifi, my GLW.

My Hannah Banana was almost 12!!!! Although she was a very old lady, I heard from someone that they had 14 year old chicken.

I called the Banana....She was so sweet and would sit in my lap. I still miss her every day

It appears that we love our little girls long after they are laying. I keep all my chickens way past their "productive" years as I'm a typical suburban chicken mom. They all have names and they all live out their lives. Unless they just die at home, I have a veterinarian available to put them too sleep because I just can't do the deed. Wasn't raised on a farm where I would give them a swift and painless death.

My oldest ever is my oldest currently. Lady Hawk was the one we feared would end up a rooster in my very first flock because she was bossy and tough and always the leader. She has made it through a few flock reshuffles and remained the top of the pecking order. She turns 10 next month, and laid gorgeous eggs all spring last year. 💕 Freaking love this chicken.

I have a buff orpington that will be 4 in March and a black austrolorp that will also be 4 March. Both continue to lay and have laid throughout this snowy and cold winter. Our other 4 original chickens, rest in peace. My duck, who was a crested indian runner lived to be 5 and that's the oldest so far. My dog is 12 so I guess maybe we should stick with canines.
