how old were your silkies when they started laying

Hi my silkies are 17 weeks old and i was wondering when yours started laying. should i put a light on them now and just wait or wait a while before i put them on 15 on 9 off what are your ideas. thanks

7 months comes to mind.

None laying now though...I have just silkie chicks for now. Not uncommon for 7-8 months POL (point of lay).

Silkies then go broody a lot (stop laying). So if your family needs eggs badly you may wish to get some egglaying breeds also.
