How old will chickens on average lay till?

Six years!

That is quite astounding.
All of mine have stopped in their tracks as soon as they hit the age of two. Not even a gradual decline, they just stopped all of a sudden one day, and never began again.

Sex links I know do stop laying pretty early.

I bought 4 sex link chicks last years, at 17 weeks old I was getting 4 eggs/ day (100%) with the exception of winter I averaged about 3.5 eggs/ day (87.5%). Just this last month they dropped to two / day 50%. Starting this weekend I am going to do one week isolation testing. I am guessing that one or two of them have stopped laying or at least lower than a 30% lay rate. As a side note none of them have ever moulted.

I bought 5 more chicks to pick up the egg production slack and I will eat the birds who are pretty much done with laying. All and all I am very happy with the great egg production I had from them in their first year. I give a thumbs up to the sex link chickens.
