I found a turkey hen on the side of the road about 4 years ago. She looks mixed with black spanish and maybe wild turkey, narragansett, or bronze. I have no idea how old she really is but she lays eggs all through spring. (she is still laying now) I was wondering at what age they usually stop laying eggs. She is a good sitter. We just bought her a boyfriend but he is a baby so I'm hoping next year she will get to have some babies.

sounds like a black spanish orlopp turkey mix mine as a kid didn't stop laying till they died

Thanks!! That's good she really likes to sit on her eggs. I feel bad because she doesn't get to hatch any.

Thats a good idea if I can find some. I have chickens but she has never took to any of their eggs.

If you want, you can always find someone local with turkey eggs or online and have them shipped to you.

If you know where her nest is. Take her eggs, and mark the hatching eggs you get. And place them in her nest without her knowing.
And I am sure you can place chicken eggs in her nest as well.

Thanks! That I didn't know you could buy them online. I have looked around locally for some and haven't had any luck.

no problem!! i'm getting some black spanish, bourbon red and blue slates i'm so excited! can't wait

I'm excited too!

There are lots of breeders that sell turkey eggs myself included :)

I have heard hens will lay 4-5 years and toms are good 3-4 years. My good tom will be retiring this year or next because he is 2 this year. Which is depressing to me because he is so pretty!!

Good luck with her. I don't let my hens go broody because they get a little over protective. One of them really wanted to but I was like no.. we collect eggs daily
