What age do they start to lay eggs. and what age can you tell when the roosters spurs start to grow

The start of laying depends on the breed and individual chicken. In my late maturing single breed flock some girls started at a week short of five months. With some of the other girls it was 9 and a half months. Twenty (20) weeks is the rule of thumb, but it can be earlier or much later.
Same with the spurs. Two roosters, same breed. One had respectable spurs at 6 months. My other roo is now 15 months old and barely has his.
