How on earth do I get the vitamins into the Silkie!!??

I have found that forcing the beak open is soooo much easier with two people. I gently insert my finger into the corner of the mouth though cause pulling under the beak just got me a mad polish that was determined NOT to open wide.

Talani,

I hadn't even thought of that! I was just looking for a space to pry her beak open and didn't see where such a space existed. Thank you for your suggestion, it is VERY HELPFUL. I will try your way next.

Akane,

I am sure you didn't mean for your post to come across this way, but I perseived it as a scolding. I asked for help and suggestions on how do to it, as clearly I am new at this and need advice.

For me, I would have been much more encourage if you had simply offered a suggestion on how to do it, rather then tell me how to not ever do it.

Thank you.

Thank you Shiningfeather.

If my baby isn't happy with me pulling on her beak feathers, I shall try your way. She is small, 6 weeks old and her beak is so little that I couldn't even see a space where I could stick my finger in to pry it open.

I think the forcefulness of my post is well worth it. You could easily kill an animal trying to give a liquid with them on their back. Your bird or the next animal you try it on could end up dead either from immediate drowning or choking or else from resulting complications such as respiratory infections. It is one of the first things you learn when giving medications or hand feeding anything whether it's for veterinary services or wildlife rehab. So again for everyone DO NOT EVER GIVE MEDICATION WITH THE ANIMAL UPSIDE DOWN. It will not be as easy and death can result especially with baby animals.

Akane,

I get what you are saying. But, your forcefulness was and is unnecessary. I admitted already that I am new at this and all I need is some guidance, which is why I posted looking for suggestions in the first place. Won't try her on her back again. Promise.

Ha! Clearly what I was missing was two more hands. Got my daughter to hold her while I gently opened the beak and voila! Easy as pie!

Thank you all for your suggestions.
