How Richard and Judith went from the golf course to the "country" club

Having always had a big garden, I have learned that simplicity is key.. and have gradually started moving away from the traditional garden. Even with farm equipment, weeding can be a back breaking chore in the summer heat. So, three bits of advice on gardening.. Raised beds, weedblock and mulch. SOOO much easier to control.

Hello again, I'm glad you enjoyed our story. It's a continuing saga of mistakes, triumphs, setbacks, accomplishments, and so much fulfillment. We are so happy with our "new" life on the farm. I guess we were probably always meant to be closer to the land--just never took the risk to change. My friends keep telling me I should write a funny short story of our adventures. Not a day goes by that we don't learn something new and get that "ah-ha" slap on the forehead feeling. We have been fortunate to have found a wonderful group of experienced farmers who have "taken us under their wings" and shown lots of kindness and patience. I know this is really generalizing, but here it is anyway: it seems to me that people out here (more in the country) who live closer to the land and have all these experiences are more "grounded" (pun intended, but in a good way). I feel like we are part of a family. Anyway, enough of that..I could go on and on. Mz. FuzzyButts, thanks for the tip about raised beds. My farm co-op friends are telling me that too. I wish I would have planted the greens garden already, but maybe too late.

Beekissed asked if we are now Rick and Judy... no always Richard and Judy from central, east coast Florida.

Great story! I think you might have been my brother's neighbors in FL! Your description sounds just like his place. I am glad you have gotten into the land...there is much to be learned here! Congratulations! Terri O--the country Auntie

You know, you really should start a blog of your adventures. I'll bet lots of folks would love to read your daily stories and see some photos!

What would you call your blog . . .

Welcome to BYC!! You sound a lot like us! We love it and have had actual nightmares about moving back to the city! Some of our friends think we are crazy, but we finally feel like we fit in and have found our place in the world.

Congratulations on finding your dream!

Shelly

Thats great!! I never "got" golf. You hit a ball, walk 100 yards and then whack it again. I always enjoyd the drinking part though

- I'm betting you lived somewhere near me!!! Where are you now? Moving out of St.Pete and to a farm is something my boyfriend and I think about off and on - I loved the story about how you happened into it. Did you sign yourself up on the Floridian thread?
