Been watching the "HEN" Fiesta (post here somewhere) and "SHE" is getting hackle feathers and saddle feathers... but I'm in denial till "SHE" crows...
It looks like hackle and saddle feather pin as normal feathers but are 'weak' and not fully formed in the rounded area, like the 'meat' of that feather isn't there - the scaffolding is there but weak and breaks off soon after unsheathing.
