I have one male quail and one female quail. I used to have three females but an animal got to two of them and I think the the male fancied a certain one that is now gone.. Ever since then he's been crowing non-stop! This has been going on for days now and I can't seem to get him to stop. I just brought him inside because I'm worried about people complaining(which I can totally understand) I'm really stuck here because he can't stay inside.. And he can't go outside.. Should I just put him down? Or is there some secret way of getting him to shut up... Whats the most humane way of putting him down?

Hmm. I answered earlier but it isn't here.

He is calling so the missing ones can locate them. He will probably do this for a few more days. He might be happy with one girl but he may keep calling for others to join him.

If you do decide to cull him then enjoy a tasty treat with him. The way I think is best to cull them may not seem humane to others. I use a 20 oz soda pop bottle as a cone & bleed them. They seem very relaxed until they expire. The twitch is after they are gone.

He is trying to locate and call his missing girls back to him. You will need to buy some more hens for him or cull him. One hen will get over bred and stressed. They will both be happier with more hens. If you can't find more then keep him inside, the move might make him quit the incessant crowing.

Over breeding was another reason why I separated them. I felt bad for her. He still crows but not as often. I'm keeping him away from food overnight just in case I want to cull him.. I'm just debating on how I should do it.. And it he too old to eat? He's around a year and a half.. So I would guess so. I could always give him to my cat I guess?

Get more girls. You will get more eggs, he will shut up, she wont be overbred, she wont be lonely if you cull him. And unless you cull her too then you have to get more girls anyway.

Thanks! I guess I'll have to cull them both.. Since my man of the house is sick of me having quails:/

I'm sorry. Has he are any? That might change his mind.

I'd take quail over pie. Easy to keep, clean,& cook. Let your birds rest in the fridge for at least two days in a sealed bowl. I soak in salt water.
