I would suggest you start small and build from there. Read everything you can find regarding chickens. You will need to accept the fact that your girls will only lay so many eggs and then they are pretty much just eating your feed. That is when it's time to process and eat them. If you pay someone to process them it will cut into your profit, so process them yourself. Learn to medicate/doctor them yourself.
Learn to tell which are roosters when they hatch so that you are not wasting feed on them. Don't accept chickens from someone else, you chance bringing unwanted disease into your flock. Only hatch your own chicks or buy chicks from a reputable farm supply or hatchery. I believe you can make money and still enjoy your birds so Good Luck
