How should I treat this cut on neck?

I don't know what happened to my baby, but I'm assuming one of the other birds did it. I pulled him out and dabbed it with betadine solution and put neosporin on it. Do I need to cover it? Do I need to separate him? I put him back in and one of my helpful chicks immediately pecked at the Neosporin until she realized it didn't taste good. 🤦

Birds have a habit of picking on wounds and even killing the bird sometimes. If possible I highly recommend keeping him separate until it has healed. Otherwise he should be fine as long as you keep it clean and don’t let it get infected.

Cute bird <3

I can keep him in a crate in the house. I just thought it was bad to keep such a young bird alone and was worried he'd be attacked worse when I reintroduced him. They're all only eight weeks old.

If it scabs up quickly you might be able to put blue kote on it to keep others from pecking. I don't usually like to use blue kote on wounds unless I really have to. But I would also be concerned about keeping it out too long since it's young and Guineas don't like change or to be alone.

Someone else may have a better idea.

When he comes back he might get a little picked on while they reestablish the pecking order. However, he should be okay for the most part. We had a chick break his leg and he was gone from the others for a month. He was accepted back okay.

It’s just a lot riskier to keep him in the coop.
I hope he gets better soon <3

You did good with the treatment so far. I would get the BluKote spray and use it on the red wound, to disguise it. Reapply it every other day, and you can also dab a little neosporin on it in the evening when going to roost. Watch their behavior so that he isn’t pecked. Is there any sharp fencing that he might have hurt himself on, or did he get pecked?

I don't know how I missed this. There are some boxes in their day pen, but I don't think anything sharp enough to cause that cut. I'm guessing it was another bird. The next morning after I had done the Betadine and Neosporin, I couldn't really tell which bird was injured. I got some vetericyn and blu-kote and picked the bird I thought it was and sprayed with Vetericyn. I didn't even spray him today because it felt like it was invisible and wetting it like that just drew attention that could lead to pecking. He seems to be healing crazy fast. I didn't separate him. I dimmed the area they sleep in so it would be less visible and watched them and checked multiple times a day for any signs of pecking
