How Smart Are Chickens?

Hi! I have just bought 4 point-of-lay Bantams. They are going to Free-Range around a top area of our garden, which is mostly fenced (or walled ) however one small section isn't, and there is a drop down to the patio. Do I need to fence this area? Or will the chickens realise that there is a drop, and not fall over?

They are smart enough not to drop over the wall. They may try to fly down on purpose, depending on how great a drop. That really depends on the breed and individual nature of the bird. I do not know Bantams, so cannot say.

I agree, definitely smart enough to not fall off but often curious enough to fly down if it's under 5 feet or so.
