How social are chicks?

After 5 calls this morning we went to a locally owned and operated feed store and got 6 chicks. They're only a day older than our hatchling but much bigger. Hopefully that translates to healthy!

M&F:  I'd recommend that you get a friend or two for your lone survivor.  Until then, you can give her a little stuffed animal to cuddle with and a mirror.  Hoping your next incubation goes better.  Before every incubation, I brush up my "data base" by reading "hatching eggs 101" in the learning center.  Lots of useful information there.  Incubation is an art, for sure and I'm glad you're not letting your first experience be a deal breaker for you.  Also glad you didn't start with expensive eggs!!!

I'll be much better prepared for our next hatch, that's for sure! There is a wealth of information on this site! I've also talked to my usual feed store guy about his methods for incubation to get a better idea of what works here. I just want to start the next incubation soon before I forget everything I already learned.
