I have a young male born early this spring who is already making the male 'sound'... Is he just practicing or is he already trying to court the ladies? It would be great if he could breed this summer, as I have way more females than males.

They are sexually mature at 6months old.It is best to wait till they are 1year old to breed them. They are fully mature at that time.

Nope, they are just messing around. They will make the sound, turn circles, and may even hop on a few hens but nothing will happen. 5 months is about when they can start reproducing but most will abandon or be unsuccessful parents until they're older (9-12 months).

Thanks. We'll look forward to babies from this Romeo next spring
