How soon can I?

How soon can I put a cricket,worm or bug in the tub I have my chicks in? They were born last Wednesday so tomorrow they will be a week old. They are pecking and chasing all over the place at food and getting really active now. Should I wait for them to chase bugs until they get outside in the pen? My wife read somewhere that chickens get bored and want to peck each other for no reason. I know they will peck at a sick one but they do seem bored and peck at everything. So will it hurt to feed them a cricket, should I wait, or will it hurt them?

If you do get them some grit, just make sure their brooder is big enough for all of them!

I usually wait until chicks are at least a week old before I give them treats, so you're probably good to go.

Just remember to provide some grit (construction sand will do) because they'll need it to digest anything other than their feed.
