How soon do you think she'll lay for me?

In my trading out cockerels, I got a silkie hen. She is the suspected mother of rest of my tiny flock... so I know she was laying regularly this fall. However, she was getting harassed by some of the others in her old flock and had stopped laying for several weeks. She just got moved and is now a city hen instead of a country hen. Her new flock looks to her as queen instead of harassing her. She seems happier and content with her new life. Last night she was roosting in the nesting box instead of on the roost. Should I expect an egg from her anytime soon?

It varies, really. Usually, chickens get stressed from changes, but if she settles in nicely, you just might get a surprise in the nesting box fairly quickly. Not sure how the weather is where you are, but decreased daylight may have an effect on her laying as well, so don't be too discouraged if she doesn't lay much, though.

Crossing my fingers for you to see an egg soon! I think normally it takes a few weeks for a newbie to begin laying........
