How soon is to soon the "candle" the egg? i found an egg last nite that was layed yesterday in the evening. i dont know how long it actually sat there before i found it or if it got rolled around. but i have the egg now bc my roo ate the other one and i was wanting to know how soon is too soon to "candle" it?

I haven't done this before but from what I've read you can candle a white egg at 2-3 days and 7 days for the darker eggs. There is a link on here somewhere but I can't tell you exactly where. Sorry. Hope this helps:)

You can (and I think SHOULD) candle an egg before incubating to see any cracks. That way you can toss any that have been broken and not risk an exploding egg. However, to see development it takes a few days. Since you have never candled before I would wait until at least day 7 if not day 10. Although, you will most likely be able to see stuff by day 3 or 4 in some of them, it is hard to know what it is you are seeing if you haven't done it quite a bit. Good luck.

thanks for you help everybody but i wont be able to raise any of the egg my parents wont allow me get the incubator and my roo eats all of the egg that she lays. its just like them to stomp on any dream that i have

Collect your eggs daily and put a golf ball or plastic egg in the nest and when the hen goes broodie take the rooster out and put her eggs back under her and remove the golf balls or whatever you put in the nest.

Unless her hens are like mine. I think they would rather be dinner than go broody. Modern women you know.

You could try to make a home made incubator. It won't be professional or anything, but if you have a lot of time on your hands and get a few supplies, you can pull something together that will at least give your eggs more of a chance than they have now. There are lots of instructions and ideas all over this site for home-made incubators. Use the search bar at the top of the page!
