My dear husband is in the process of designing our coop and he is wondering how tall our nesting boxes should be off the ground of our coop?

Mine are 9 inche high sounds low but I got this idea from the Amish people if you make them this short they can't stand up on the eggs and they won't poo as much On the eggs

Mine are around 4 ft off the ground but that is the way they were when I moved in to the place I am renting that already had a chicken coop. My chickens get in to them just fine and lay there eggs. We do have a lot of predators out this way and this is one way to keep them out most of all the snakes.

Thank you. So 2 feet off the floor of the coop doesn't sound bad? That is what we have figured at the moment, but could easily change it. My husband is just taking ideas and drawing it in auto cad.

should just be sure that the highest nest box is lower than the roost.

I went up 20" so they can walk comfortably underneath while still keeping the nestboxes noticeably lower than the roost (36"). 24" is plenty.
