Hi,

ive bought 10 of these "bits" as ive introduced 3 new hens to my established flock. 2 of the hens took straight away (they still get the odd peck every now & again but they are able to feed & get water). the 3rd was singled out. she is living in my back garden at the moment.

i tried to put one on them earlier but no success. it feels like its going to hurt their nostrils.
has anyone had good/bad experience with these? i'd love to be able to part the run & shed but its not possible. i was told to put these in hot water to make them easier to open but im afraid im hurting the hens or im not handling them the right way.
if anyone has seen videos of someone putting these on, please let me know as she needs to get back with the others where she belongs.

I've never seen anything like that, does the manufacturer have a website you can look at to see how to use them. Isn't the bit supposed to go on the pecker not the peckee?

i just realized that sounds a little dirty but I wasn't sure how else to phrase it.

I've used peepers before and they got used to them just fine after an initial conniption.

go back to your first post and click edit in the bottom right corner. when the edit screen appears, you will be able to edit the title of the thread as well as the text. you can't edit the title from any other post but the first one.

ETA - let us know what you find out because, from what I understood, peepers actually pierce the chicken's nostrils.

i have appplied by 6 hens with the bumpers.
i used circlips pliers in the end to open the bit up wide.
they hissed a little & didnt want to know me for about an hour but fingers crossed they stayed on last night. ill check on them again today & if they are, will introduce the singled out hen to the flock.
im off on hols tomorrow so if they are good to her, ill remove them & post a vid on youtube like suggested to help any other out,
