How to approach a city's government about changing the ordinance to allow backyard chickens?

I live in a city that does not allow backyard chickens, however I have had several for about five years now. My neighbors haven't complained and I have had no problems with my city over the chickens. I am moving very soon to another city that doesn't allow chickens either and I'm more concerned about them now. How can I approach the project of getting the city to change it's ordinance, to allow backyard chickens?
