I have searched but not come up with much. We are almost done with our coop! I will get some pics today. But I am getting hung up on attaching the exterior nest box to the coop well so that it won't fall off later. We aren't stellar engineers here. Lol. It's 4 feet long and 1 foot deep and slightly higher than a foot high to slope down for rain. It's heavy! How are these things usually attached? I was just planning a 2x2s on the sides and bottom that are drilled to both box and coop...

Ours was attached with 1.5" staple gun to the 2x4 framing. Just set into the frame and stapled away.

I used 2x2 for bottom under it and side and top screwed it all with 2" screws.

Can you show photos and a description so we know what you are working with? I'd screw it on but I don't know what you have to screw to.

nest 3.jpg nest1.jpg nest2.jpg nest4.jpg nest5.jpg This is the best I can offer as to how ours was constructed - it might offer you some help, I can get the specific details if needed, but would have to ask DH/FIL just how/what they did. I do know just about everything in this coop is held together with deck screws, LOTS and LOTS of deck screws, lol.

If weight is a concern you can always run a "leg" off each corner and/or in the middle to provide support on the outside, but it shouldn't be needed if properly framed up.

20170805_193311.jpg 20170805_195619.jpg the partially done nest box is lying inside the coop here on it's front. The 2 long pieces are the floor and front. Still need sides and top.

Besides how to attach it, how do you keep rain from getting in the crack where the hinged slanted lid will meet the wall of the coop?

Need to see the inside of the wall that the nest attaches too...
...and see the nests out in the open on the ground so we can see the whole thing.

Some folks make the nest open on the vertical instead of the angled top, easier to weather proof the top that way....or you can use rubber over top hinges.
Your roof overhang might help.

Ours has shingles over the hinge plus a caulked board covering the shingle edge

As @aart mentioned, you can locate the door on the front vs the roof, this was the way we went. Where box meets wall we used flashing and caulking to form a water tight seal, which is backed up by the overhang of the roof on that side
