How to be nice about it?

I told my SO about the shoes over the phone (and I was niice

).
He asked 'A-Ar-Are you serious?' Then I went into the worried spill about how they would never wear them and I dont want her to waist her money..!

He agreed and just said 'yeah..'

but atleast he knows now. Hes not much into all that loudness either.
I know if we see her before she buys the shoes shes just GOING to have to tell him about them.
Maybe he will give her another suggestion and all the pressure will be taken off me

First, let me say that I have the BEST Mother-in-law in the world...PERIOD. I wouldn't trade her for anything, but thats a different story for a different day.

What if you told her, your MIL, a "little white lie"....like the pediatrician told us that boots were really not the best things for toddlers feet. Not enough arch support, often cause ankle sprain in young children, blah, blah, blah

At least in this case the Dr could be the bad guy!!

in-law issues and hurt feelings can be tough....hope things work out

If I were in your situation, I would tell her I wasn't sure if they would wear them or not and suggest something that they did need or could use. Kind of a diversion tactic I guess you could say.

My MIL gives second hand clothes from the 80's, most unwareable and 6x too big, she just gave my DD 4 size 2 woman pants! Second hand shower gift that she give though embarrass's me, they have money but they are cheap.
