How to beat the heat???

Foot baths that they can stand or walk in. They will jump in and just stand or even sit down and cool off. Add an ice container if desired. Shade and a mister go a long ways.

I'm not sure if this would work in a very humid environment, but it's so dry here that it works great. I go out and use the hose sprayer to wet down the run, the evaporating water from that cools quite a bit. And the chickens come running when they see me with the hose, so they can play in the sprinkler like kids!

I would love to see your chickens play in the water!! I bet that is the funniest and cutest thing ever. Well unfortunatly I'm thinking that might not work do to how humid it is here. Humidity can be anywhere from 80%-97%. But I know what your talking about though cuz I used to live in New Mexico and that's how we would cool down the horses and dogs.

Hi bobby,
i think we are neighbors, i live off of FM 1136.

I freeze jugs of water and bury them in the ground, they last much longer and the chicks/chickens can dust bath or sit on top of the cool ground.

I have frozen bottles of water and placed them right in waterers before....lasts longer than ice and you can refreeze them.

I rigged up a fan in my coop to circulate air for when they take refuge from the heat in there....also seems like using deep litter helps keep them cooler.
