I have a broody hen that will NOT leave the nesting box. She has hatched all of the eggs that I want her to hatch. Now enough is enough. She does not want to get out of that nesting box.

I won't even tell you how long she has been broody and sitting in that nesting box. I can't run her out of there for NOTHING. I can't close the door to keep her out because she is in the main chicken house where all of the nesting boxes are and I need the chicken house to be open for all of the chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys to go in to lay their eggs.

Has anyone else had this problem? How long is too long to allow her to set on eggs? I keep taking her out and she keeps going back. She has already hatched poults and showed no interest in them but she still wants more babies. I'm sure if I allow her to be broody for the rest of the year, she would take me up on the offer and do it. She is getting on my nerves with this foolishness.

I just take her to another pen for a few days to a week. That seems to break the cycle. If you have no other pens then you neede to take all the nest boxes down for about a week. Then collect all eggs for that week. If they stay broody to long it does take a toll on there health.
