How to breed for coloration

Like the others said, he just lack the size and shape of a young JG. Most LGs at that age have long leggs, short tails, skinny necks, and more of a larger framed, block shape body.

I have a JG rooster and hen. My rooster also has the gold hackles. I got them from the Swap in Ellijay, Ga this past summer and was told they were purebred. I don't know that much about them though.

Very true RAREROO..
A JG. Cockerel at 6 mounths of age should be 10 - 11 lbs and pullets around 7 - 8 lbs. A full grown GJ. Rooster should be 13 lbs and a hen should be 10 lbs.

A male fowl over a year old is a cock bird, under a year it is a cockerel, except in the USA where they are roosters. Why, because cock is a rude word, ask the religious right wing. LOL

I raise Giants and this bird looks nothing like a pure bred to me. I ordered some eggs from ebay last year just to try some different lines in my birds and the cockerel that I raised from these eggs had copper in the neck. I culled the whole flock of 8 Chickens because I didn't want to chance it with my flock. The bottom line is if its a backyard flock your raising the bird will be fine, but if your wanting to raise birds that meet the standards I would cull it.
