How to breed specific rooster and hen??

I've had the same experience--they look like they're separate flocks, but there's always poaching.

When you're getting ready to hatch, just pull the little guy out of the flock for a few weeks. A good 2 weeks to clear out any sperm a hen may have stored from him, then however long it takes you to collect eggs. Then he can come back with the flock.

That's a good idea! What would that do when I reintroduce him? I may just do this separation idea with the small group I want to breed. I would hate for my little guy to end up at the bottom of the totem pole.

Right now the big roo has only mated with the one hen that he followed around since he was a baby. I doubt it will last, but right now they appear to be exclusive lol

I have Americana's mixed with Jersey Giants. I want to breed my Americana's. So I need to separate them for 2 weeks BEFORE I can begin to collect eggs to raise? This is my first time doing this, so I need some help. I did not think it would take 2 weeks to "clean" out any sperm from the JG, but want to make sure I do this correctly.

Any help / suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I've read 2-3 weeks of laying before exposing her to the new rooster to be sure your are getting the new roos sperm only.

Sepaditty1 is correct. You want to put the desired rooster with the desired hens. He'll start breeding them right away, and over time, the sperm from the previous rooster will gradually die off, so after 2 weeks, you should be left with just sperm from the desired roo. Aart's way would work too, but If I were doing it, I'd give the desired roo access to the girls right away.
