How do you breed your own meal worms?

I bought some online to breed for my birds, they said to put oatmeal as bedding and for food then give them lettuce, banana peels, apples, stuff that they can get water out of. don't let anything grow mold. keep them in a warm place, I keep my in an unheated building with a greenhouse heat mat underneath. really easy.
