I want to maximize the inside space of my coops by building the nest boxes on the outside, but how? lol How do I do it so rain can't leak into it?

Here are mine, bone dry too. There are other pics during construction on My BYC Page.

My coop is small too 4 X 4ft. I went to the habitat for humanity restore and found a cabinet that is lamenated and mounted it partly inside and out to save space. I don't have pictures yet but hope to soo. All this is done with my DH's help and we put a slanted roof/access door over the nest boxes. Oh I cut a part of one side out of the cabinet, the side into the coop area. Well it leaked so I took an old large tire innertube and cut a chunk a little larger than the roof/access door and nail it to the outside wall laying it against the roof. It had ripples to it because it was a curver being forced to be straight but sheds the rain very well. My nest boxes will be perfect for my hens when they move in. the rubber also will keep the area warm.

Monk, I really like the way you have the front opening instead of the roof. Watertight and easy to get to the eggs. That's a sweet design!

Two thumbs up!
