How to care for a prairie dog?

I have no idea where mine was sourced from. They weren't an every pet store type critter, just the ones that sold more exotic type things.

Prairie dogs have a very strong smell. Have you talked to people who owned them? Go to a zoo or nature center that has prairie dogs and sit beside the exhibit that has them in it. Im sure some folks have them as pets and some of those people love the smell.

prairie dog? we only have the black tailed one where i live (in my province i live to far north for them), there like gophers though right? most people here use them as target practice in the fields (gophers) as they can cause a lot of damage to farm land.
