How To Catch A Thief

when we first moved into this house 43 1/2yrs. ago we put those cheap reflective drive-way markers up and down both sides. Next morning half of them were gone. We are at the end of the street with a utility easement on one side of us - high tension electric towers, etc. lots of tall weeds and bushes. - the thieves just go by and once they get into the field, no one can see them. Sure they came back one day for the rest of the markers. We didn't bother to replace them.

That was just the start of it. Vandalism, petty theft, leaving our gates open (that were tied shut) etc. etc. Maybe not the same perps but every few years a new batch of them traipse thru the area.

My dad would have tanned my butt if I had ever done such a thing. Lot of parents don't care, and apparently never ask when something came from. The kids across the field now ride one of those quad things up and down the field and then down our street and cross to the next one and back. The cops have been trying like crazy to catch them for driving on a public street. Of course they are never there.

I have a camera with a zoom lens and just for the heck of it I pointed it at their property and could see it plain as day, maybe some day I'll be able to get some photos of them driving down the street.
They also zoom into the forest preserve at the far end of the street and reappear shortly after. I know years ago punks were selling dope in the preserve parking lot - I suppose they still do.

Another batch of them used to ride a golf cart up and down the street and got cited for it. That didn't deter them at all. Like I said, parents don't care what the do. Fortunately it broke down and rather than fix it, they sold it. They also have a whole mess of dogs that they let loose and they are not socialized. They claim they are friendly, I told told them friendly dogs don't approach you stiff legged, with hackles up and snarling and showing teeth and said "if any of the dogs bite me I will sue the blankety blanks off their parents." I mean it too.

I worry more for them than their parents do.

I went online and searched both security cameras and spy cams.
Found an set of 8 that I know my bosses would just love, has a DVR/DVD that records for 30 days. Costs almost a $1000.

I looked at the spy cams. Some needed extension cords because the battery life was short.
There was both good and bad reviews on them.

At that price, your employer may just decide that the minor pilfering doesn't warrant that expense. They probably are well aware of what is happening, and they just want to look the other way.

Sometimes there are things that we all do not know about. In my office we had a problem in that there never seemed to be toilet paper in the ladies room. It would be there at the start of the day, but by noon the ladies were asking us to get some out of the mens room for them.

One of the ladies was promoted, and given her education and background, it seemed unwarranted. When she was in a meeting, the other ladies went through her purse. They found the missing toilet paper, but they also discovered that she was the daughter in law of our division head. It was a dead issue.

Thieving is the one thing they never look the other way on.
It starts adding up over time rufus.

Have one person who is not allowed to bring their child into the store. This child started taking suckers and eating them and then dropping the sticks through out the store. Parent did nothing. This went on for over a month. I was finding these sucker sticks every where! They never paid for them either. Child is old enough to know better too.

They told the parents they could not come back in the store with this kid.

Talked to my boss to get permission tp put up a couple spy cams. They really appreciated the thought and offer but said it would be best if we didn't do that because the thief might steal the camera!

Found 3 more pops today too.

Did talk to them about the new set up of 8 cameras. I will look it up and print off the one I found.

I was in a Marshall's store sometime ago, checking out gourmet foods as holiday gifts. Couldn't help but notice some boy opening up cookies and eating them, then going to open up other packages. It really steamed me up. I told him he couldn't that. So he ran to his mama with me following behind. I tried to tell her in a nice way that her son was doing this and now no one would buy them. She looked at her son and asked him "did you do that?" Of course he said "NO!"

I told a saleslady and she just smiled and didn't do a thing. You know they must figure in "spoilage," etc. against profit they don't want to "put off" any adults that may be buying something. All I could think of was the mother and employee were showing the punk that they condoned his behavior.

This is one way irresponsible kids eventually grow up to be irresponsible adults.

Somebody used to keep swiping my desserts from the fridge even tho they had my name on it. I got so aggravated I put a note on that said "Touch this and die!!" Well you can imagine how that went over. I got chastized and whoever - continued to take my stuff. I should have baked up some ex- lax brownies.

I think that the problem is with the attitude that "the good things in life belong to all of us." That is what the 350 pound lady said when I caught her shaking my pecan tree. If she fell out of it, she probably would sue me. Worse, she probably would fall on one of her kids she had picking the pecans.
