How to catch a very young stray pup --- (pic added)

He may be older than you think. I have worked some truly awful rescue cases, and heavy parasitism and malnutrition can profoundly stunt a puppy's growth.

I had 2 malinois pups that were turned over to rescue (with pressure), that were about 12lbs each.... and their teeth were 5+ months old. Their bodies were extremely immature also. If you aren't familiar, this is breed that should weigh 50-60lbs at maturity. Very sad.

We also had a "beagle puppy" come in that was picked up as a stray by Animal Control. The officer that called said it was an 8-10wk puppy in bad shape. The dog was less than 10 lbs and covered in ticks (I won't even tell you what showed up on the fecal), and when we opened his mouth... whoa! He was well over a year old, probably 2. Scary. He's cleaned up in and in a good home now and doing well.

Poor baby! I'm glad you're feeding him Lisa - you'll have a friend for life!

Hi!
He is a cutie and a very frustrating little wild puppy! I moved his bedding back to the front of the 'big trap' and put his breakfast 8" inside the trap.
When I went down this evening, he was laying at the door of the trap and hadn't touched breakfast.

I fed him double dinner and then a 'cookie'.
It makes me smile, he 'plays' with his bedding. After breakfast, he'll drag it off and have 'puppy-battles'.
And even tho he is a 'woods-pup' , he has favorite sticks to play with.
He plays fetch (to a point), he piles up sticks and re-piles them after I've scattered them.
I'm no closer to getting my hands on him.
Happy Holidays,
Lisa
