Hi - I have these nasty things in my basement, and every once in a while I can stun one to give to the girls. Does anyone know how to set a trap for them and catch them live? Is it really ok for them to eat? Thanks all! - Mary

At first when I read cave cricket I thought you meant vinegaroons. I googled "cave crickets" and if I ever saw a cricket that looked like that I would probably freak out. They look too much like a spider for me. As for catching them I have no clue, sorry. A chicken would probably love those things though. Thanks for helping me to learn something new today. Gotta love byc!!!

I'm not sure what the cave crickets eat, but for the regular old black crickets hollowing out a bread loaf will cause them to congregate inside the loaf while they eat. Not sure if this is really worth the effort, though.

A minoow trap works for me. If you don't have one you can buy 2 cheap strainers from a dollar store and wire them together and cut a small nickle size hole in one end. put a small amount of bread in it and lay it where the crickets are most abundant.

Thanks slewfoot - that looks great! I like the loaf of bread idea, too, but then how do I pick it up? Thanks for all the ideas everyone!

Here's a thought...you have a cricket problem, and you have chickens. The chickens will eat the crickets -- you're just the middle-man catching the crickets for the chickens.

We all know what happens to the poor ol' middle man...

See where I'm going with this?

(I know, I know...a basement chicken problem is probably worse than a basement cricket problem -- but I bet you've thought about it!
