How To Clean A Silkie

My Silkies are free range and we have had a lot of rain lately. I noticed two of my boys are a total mess. I would like to clean them up but not sure what or how I should do it. Do I give them a bath and use soap or shampoo or just soak them until all the mud comes off? how can I get my white roosters to look white again instead of dirty tan from the mud???

People bathe silkies all the time -- and other chickens, especially for showing. A little mild soap and a dishpan or sink will do. I know there are posts/threads on here talking aobut how to get them white safely, I've seen it discussed, but don't remember what they use.
