How to combine coveys

I have two coveys of 6month old quail, I want to combine them into one hutch with only one of the males. Each covey is 4females and one male, I want to put 6-7 females in with one male and put the non productive ones in the freezer. I then have young quail (4 weeks) coming on as growers to make a new second and third covey with.
What is the best way to combine the two older populations? Or am I best just bringing on the new ones and creating three new coveys.

Take your larger pen, remove all of the birds. Give it a thorough cleaning and rearrange everything that you can. Then put all of the birds in at once. That puts them on equal footing and they are more likely to get along. That doesn't mean that there won't be any squabbles, so you need to keep an eye on them, but it helps.
