Hi

My wyandotte hen has been in the 'hospital' for three weeks

now and with not much improvement. She had lice and was

treated with sevin dust ten days ago and today. Her combs are

still pale, she has terrible balance and she's skinny. I have been

feeding spinach (iron?), grass, corn and Layena. I am starting to

feel really bad for her and if she can't be cured soon, I am going

to euthanize her

Does anybody have any advice on fixing

anemia for chickens? Hopefully something around the house

Thanks

Is she drinking? If not add warm water to some pellets or try some cooked rice and veggies. This will help increase her water intake. You can also give her unflavored pedialyte in place of water to increase her electrolytes. You may also want to contact an avian vet for some suggestions. Hope she feels better soon. Keep us updated!

You could also try giving her some meat (protein) unless your raising her on a vegetarian diet. Good luck with your hen!!

try giving her some vitamin supplement and electrolyte solution from the feed store. If you have some B complex vitamins around the house you can use those, just dissolve in a some warm water and dip it in some bread and feed it to her. I would not dust her or worm her in the state she is in, she is to weak, hope she gets better

Oh wow guys Thanks!

She has been drinking but i can make a

mash for her. I dont think we have liver

on hand but i can give her some ground

elk burger

Seems like I read on here not to feed spinach to chickens, or maybe it was ducks, I'll have to look into it and let you know. Ground elk would be good and I'm sure she would love liver mine love meat.

i understand why you would not want to worm her at this weakened state, but just in case worms could be contributing, how about adding some pumpkin seeds to her diet?
