How to deal with Red Foxes in GA???

Hello BYC community! Here in Georgia, red foxes are a protected species. However, they often pay my chickens a not-so-friendly visit and actually killed my only rooster today. How can I keep them pests away while it is illegal to kill them?
Killing them is a temporary measure for an immediate threat, but;
  • this is dependent on you catching them before they do more damage to your flock,
  • there are likely always going to be more and
  • there may be a delay in getting the permit.
I would likely look into preventative measure first or in addition to culling.
Electric fencing. Close to the ground and every 6'' up to 3'.

The electric fencing is a great deterrent, getting zapped may be enough to send the predators off to find an easier meal. Fox tend to hunt at night, under the cover of darkness so motion sensor lights strategically aimed around your coop and run area can help, we got some solar powered lights and *touchwood, so far, so good and possibly putting a no-dig barrier on your run fencing will give your flock more security.

I think these are the lights that we got and they are pretty bright.
