my girl laid her first egg today, i’m not the biggest fan of eggs but would like to try it. what’s the best way to cook it? scrambled, boiled, etc?

and do we have to change her feed? she is on purina flock raiser pellets.

The only duck eggs I’ve had have been scrambled and they were pretty tasty. So try that first perhaps?

Scrambled, fried, hard boiled. It’s all good.
And they make great cakes, etc.
Flock Raiser is good. Put out a bowl of crushed oyster shells for her. She will eat what she needs.

Eggs are personal preference. Why not try all the styles? You'll have plenty of eggs to experiment with :) Duck eggs have a slightly higher yolk to albumen ratio meaning if you were an egg connoisseur you may be able to tell the egg is creamier (higher in fat). I love my eggs over easy (cooked low and slow with bacon grease, of course) or poached. An omelette or scrambled egg is also delicious. Sometimes I make a sandwich with toast, avocado, egg, and salsa. Very yummy! Boiled is easier but a little more plain. Excellent for meal prep or quick egg salad.

Congrats on your first egg! If you don't learn to love them, I'm sure you have folks in your life who would love to take them off your hands.

Duck eggs make THE BEST deviled eggs we discovered. They’re much creamier than chicken eggs so the texture is a lot different. They’re also good boiled, fried, and great for baking.

We will be taking them all to a friends house for the next week, since I will be visiting family (I would bring them with me, since they would love the lake, but my boy gets car sick)

will she still lay eggs at their house? I’ve heard when there is a big change ducks will get stressed and not lay them until they settle down. I would hate for her to get egg bound when i’m 10 hours away.

I can't speak for ducks specifically, but every bird is different. We moved our coop on a truck trailer, with the birds in it, from their first and only home and hour away to our house, and I got two eggs that day.

we will be getting her oyster shells soon, she refuses to eat any duck/chicken egg shells?
