How to Efficiently Clean Poop

We started using a poop board a few months ago and it is the best thing ever. Only issue I’m having is the tiny pieces of poop go right through the kitty litter scoop so I still have a lot of tiny pieces left. Any ideas on what to use for a scoop that will still let the PDZ go through but not the tiny poops?

if i had to scoop chicken shit every day, i wouldn’t own chickens. so my hat is off to you who can commit to that.

i use deep bedding in the coop with pine shavings. every few months i turn everything over and add more shavings. it never smells in there, but i just do it for good measure when i happen to be handling another chore in the coop or run.

twice a year i change the bedding out by shoveling all of the old bedding into the run and tossing in two fresh bales of shavings to the coop.

piece of cake.

+1. except I just toss some chicken scratch on any area(s) that I want to have the chickens turn over. I, myself, don't turn over the deep bedding anymore.

Twice a year cleaning and dump the old bedding into the chicken run. Turns into compost which I use in the gardens and raised beds. Really good stuff.

Coop and run never smells. Just add some fresh coop bedding maybe every other month in the summer, but maybe twice a month in the winter when my chickens live in their coop.

I know some people are big fans of poop boards and daily cleanings, but I prefer deep bedding with twice a year cleaning over any other method I have tried.

:old At my age, less work means more time for enjoyment of raising chickens.
