How to explain chicken sex to young children

I have a 7 year old daughter and I try to be pretty straight forward with her. As many others have suggested. She was so worried about the hens being hurt. I told her they were mating. Mating is trying to make babies. Sometimes the hens do not like it and they get mad.

Hopefully you can forego any animal-human connection and let the parents take that bullet later

Thankfully if they’re in the water you don’t see it but the few times the have on land you can see it dangling before it goes back in the male
