i recently bought a small flock of bantam cochins, all between 4 months and 1 year old.

after a few days of observing them i noticed they have all been picking on the youngest hen, not letting her eat or go near the water, pouncing on her, pecking her head etc. so ive seperated her and brought her in.
to my horror she weighs next to nothing, shes as light as...wel.....l a ball of feathers, and her keel bone sticks out terribly.

i gave her some cracked corn, grain and layer pellets which she gobbeled up as if she was starving. but its gonna be a long road to getting some meat on her i think.

which foods can i give her that are good for getting weight on her....and to give her some strength back? (she seems really weak)

im guessing eggs...scrambeled or hard boiled? what else??

I'd say give them meat. But that can get costlly. My feeder is inside their coop & stays full 24/7 so they always have food.Spring is right around the corner & that means the bugs are coming. Bugs are probably the best food source for chickens bugs are full of protein & thats what chickens need. I wouldn't give them alot of corn because it lacks protein. The problem when feeding corn is they fill up on corn which is low in protein & then they don't eat the laying pellets which are high in protein. Best advice is feed them the pellots 24/7 & give them some greens & they should be fine.

canned tuna is a great source of protein! my chickens go gaga over it (I call it chicken-crack). they can never get enough. but if you feed it more than a day or two in a row, you may have a tuna taste in the eggs.
