My dog is a rotti/shepard mix. Saved him from dealth and cost me 47 bucks! He is my best bud, keeps us safe, eats all the cat food, sleeps with my chickens, and sniffs my cats bum!
Dogs are they grand

We've been trying to find someone who has a Golden Retriever Male that we can use for stud service for our Lilly.

The two that I have contacted here in Phoenix are so uppity that they would never allow their dogs to breed with a "common" AKC registered Golden, oh no!, she has to be SHOW Quality with pedigree lines longer than I have in ancestors.

Anyone have a nice GR male that we can put our Lilly with... we really only want a nice little male pup.... we'll give away or rehome the others.

Thats a real shame Mahonri. Real sad. Sometimes i wonder if some of these fancy pants breeders forget about the REAL reason to have a dog! They seem to have this "My dog is better than YOUR dog! neener...neener " mentality.

I know! It's a shame those breeders, who have likely spent years working on the reputation of health of their lines won't let their dog breed to just anyone. Who are they to say that your dog must be quality, and health tested?

How about instead of making 10 extras Goldens, you go adopt one in need of a home?

That is not it. Not it at all. ANY PERSON breeding dogs has an obligation to at least see to it that the dogs they are using are healthy.

Golden Retrievers should be screened by the OFA for inherited hip and elbow disease, and by a canine ophthalmologist for inherited eye disease. Golden Retrievers should also be screened for inherited heart defects before breeding.

This is in no way being "uppity". This is being concerned for the welfare of your breed, and breeding HEALTHY puppies.

If you would like more information on where and how to get this screening done I would be happy to provide the info.

I have to agree here... Health screening is very important. Being a common AKC grump probably has little to do with it. Just have to understand that alot of people feel that just because their dog has a registration, it is breeding material... Not so. You have a registered dog with major health problems. They want to see the dogs extended pedigree so that they can see if there is any history of those problems.
