I am sorry if I have posted this in the wrong spot but I am so confused.

I have my newly built coop and can only have 4 large chickens so after much reading decided on 2 BLR Wyandottes and 2 Blue....hens as I don't want to disturb the neighbors. So......how do I find these chicks? I would really like show quality in case I get the show bug and want to show at least one of them. It seems that everyone only wants to ship 12 or more and not only can I not afford that many but what would I do with extras?? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have only ever taken in rescue animals and this is the first time that I have been able to select exactly what I want so it is a big deal to me.

Thank you in advance.

There are a few different things you can try -
You can ask around to see if there are any other people who want to go in on an order with you - most places will let you order different breeds within the same order.
You can order the 12 or 25 chicks, raise them to a certain point, then sell them.
If there's a particular breed you want, you can see if there are breeder's in your area and arrange to purchase from them.

If you're hoping to show, know that most hatcheries don't really carry show quality birds, and your best bet would be to find a breeder of that particular breed. You can look here under the breeders section, go to chicken shows or chickenstocks, look on-line, etc.

Good luck in filling your new coop - how exciting!

Try My Pet Chicken- they have Blue Laced Reds, and you can get as few as 3. They're probably not show quality though.

go into the breeds section on here. there is a list of breeders you can check by chicken breed or state where you live. You may be able to find someone close to you that sells chicks. If you want show quality you want to buy from a breeder. You can also go to the chicken shows there are always birds and chicks for sale there. Hope this helps Micki
