I would like to find someone with the experience & facilities to 'process' 4 roosters. Said roosters were purchased as sex link pullets but apparently didn't read the fine print as they grew some extra bits. They need help getting them to their new home, however dark & cold it may be.

This ad keeps getting flagged on Craigslist so I thought I'd try asking here! Our poor harassed hens & I thank you!

Did you try posting in the farm and garden section? Also call your local feed stores they may know of someone near by that does processing.

We process chickens here in oklahoma for people at times but for 4 roosters you should consider watching you tube on how to process chickens and either pluck them with boiling your water or skinning them. When we just have like 4 to do we just skin them and it is sure good . You always have to be clean and soak your birds in good ice water after dressed.

I went today and watched someone process his chickens and a few turkey's and then I jumped in and processed one of my own roosters. It really wasn't hard at all - I will never take my chickens to a processor again. Really - all you need is a sharp knife, a turkey fryer, a table and a rubbermaid bucket with cold water in it....... I didn't know if I could do it and the first one I watched made me a little squeamish but by the second or third, I was fine and had my head right in there watching everything. When it came time to do my roo, I pretty much did it all myself right from slitting the throat to removing all of the innards.....which surprised me because I'm a girly girl when it comes to stuff like that and I've never killed anything or processed an animal. Now I am thinking of doing my own meaties in the next couple of weeks..... now that I know I can handle all aspects of them, I'm not afraid to get some and give it a whirl.

Thanks all for the advice! NOTE: I'm also a rather girly city person - this is very new to me!!

I figured the farm & garden section of craigslist was a good start but unfortunately "looking for someone to slaughter roosters" didn't go over well. Even my later ads to process were flagged. :D its just rather ironic as those that flagged the ad there probably buy Foster farms chicken which have a horrid confined life & are full of antibiotics and who knows what else. But least.they're above killing. Imagine that. hypocrites - these roosters had really nice lives.

I took the advice to call a. Local feedstore (Tractor supply - luv thaint place) and a guy from there who raises chickens made it easy. While I didn't actually kill them, I know how & can gut & pluck now. He was Very patient.

Not bad for a city girl.

Now waiting for cooler weather. I am thinking of chicken & dumplings.

There was a post on here that had pictures that detailed each step of the butchering process..........or maybe it was a link to a blog - I can't remember. Let me see if I can find it again.....

OK - here is a different thread I found. When we did the birds, it wasn't nearly as bloody as these pictures - but we also didn't have them up against a wall with plastic behind it (they hung off the end of a wooden swing set).

We live in Oklahoma and would gladly let someone watch us process chickens when we do. My husband and I have taught quite a few people how to butcher and don't mind helping someone learn. We now have a plucker and do process them for people at times also for 2.50 a bird. I think is so cool you guys are learning to dress chickens. It saves so much money and is so much cleaner than stuff that is bought.
