how to fix pasty butt

Clean pasty butts up careful and oil them after as so many advised. Then add one spoon of buttermilk to two spoons of (medicated) feed per chick and feed it every other day of w week to cure the problem. And its never too soon to add a few drops of ACV to the water.

Hold gently but firmly and wash that backside! If the vent gets too clogged for it to poo, it will stop up and die. Get it and try again. My experience in life is pretty much any baby fusses at times about fetting washed!! LOL

Every day couple times. I had a baby last night that had a clogged vent. She didn't like it til I put her bottom under the running water. Calmed her right down. I like the idea about a mirror will try that next time

You are going to have to clean the vent area ASAP. You will have to keep checking and cleaning as needed. Some people add a bit of organic apple cider vinegar to the water and claim it works well. I keep a dish of sand in the brooder with seems to prevent it entirely.

Search "pasty butt" in the search box for info on the apple cider vinegar dosage. Good luck.

How does the sand help? Does it work as chick grit?

She isnt doing it now but she's been sitting on the edge of this little wooden box off an on all day...not sure if that's considerd roosting but she likes it. I was hoping they would get that idea ...
